★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Best sushi I've ever eaten! I'm not a sushi connoisseur, but I do know good food when I eat it. This was truly superb. My wife and I enjoyed a 16-piece sushi sampler, and then ordered another 6 pieces that we had found particularly delicious, or that we each wanted the other to try. The chef and the assistant/server - the only people working in the restaurant, were friendly and hospitable, despite not speaking much English (nor do we speak any Japanese). All of the other customers were Japanese, except my wife and I - which speaks to the quality and cost of the food - since it's not being prepared exclusively for the tourist market. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable meal and experience. I also really liked watching the chef preparing each item. Highly recommended!

But in all seriousness, hard place to find; second floor in a back alley. But all worth it, simple, clean, friendly and best sushi you can ask for at that price. Just go there!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The restaurant is located on the second floor of the building, so need to search a little bit. There is a lift if you have spent a long day walking. The place is very small and quite cosy. They have an English menu and the staff speaks enough English. The sushi are just so amazing! The chef informs you if there is no need to add soy sauce, you just need to trust him and enjoy the taste. The sushi set of 16 is ¥5000.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent sushi restaurant that is reasonably priced for Kyoto. It’s great that it’s non smoking as well. You can find it on the second floor of the building off the street (small sign for it). It also has an English menu to help with ordering. Great draft beer and sake as well - went here two nights in a row!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you want an amazing sushi experience I recommend visiting Yoshino Pontocho and sit on the Chef's table. We were spoiled with so many things, we had different types of Sake from different regions in Japan. We tried different Chef's choice Sashimi, different rolls, some appetizers and the service was amazing. (And the Sake kept coming....)
We ended up paying a fraction of what such a meal would cost in Tokyo if you want the same quality. Thank you for having us. Thank you for an amazing night and probably the best sushi I've had in Kyoto.
