★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the best steaks I've had in a long while, you pay by the gram and by cut of meat which is an interesting way of doing things. The meat selection was very good and so was the additional sauces table side. Service was excellent and so was the food. I got a 480g sirloin med-rare, it came cooked and seasoned to perfection. I will defiantly return and recommend people to come here again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Love the steak and the ambience. It’s a quick eat and go place but it’s nice. Eat at this outlet coz I tried the one at food court , it’s not as nice.. this outlet is great. To avoid the long queue , try to go on weekday and slightly before or after lunch hours.. :)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I first discovered Ikinari steak house chain in Osaka December 2015 and absolutely love their concept: Ultra fast service for high quality grilled steaks prepared in a perfect method on a bed of sweet corn and sweet onions (similar to Vidalia onions in Georgia, USA). You approach the counter and watch the Chef retrieve the cut you desire from the glass door chiller. He then proceeds to cut the quantity desired (starting from 200 grams). My preference is for 1.5 inch thickness so weight can range from 300 to 500 grams depending on the steak's surface area. The meat is then expertly grilled to desired done-ness and placed on the vegetable bed which serves as a buffer between the meat and the sizzling hot plate. Upon serving at your table, a thermos flask of dilute teriyaki steak sauce is available to pour onto the hot plate. The sizzling steam puts the perfect finishing touch by cooking the vegetables and moistening the steaks from beneath. Every time I've dined in the Osaka and now this Kyoto outlet has resulted in perfectly cooked steaks. Moreover the prices are extremely reasonable making this superb value for money!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is just such an awesome concept, I find myself wishing it existed in the USA. You order steak. A few minutes later, you get steak. On a hot plate. With no fuss. And it’s great. The steak I got was in the medium to high price range for the restaurant. It was ridiculously fatty and pretty good but not memorable.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The steak is great for mid-priced restaurant. Peak hour crowd is no fun with limited seating. You eat sitting or standing counter style, fine dining it is not. Forget eating in large groups, clusters of 2 work best. But worth the wait if you can endure it. All kinds of basic cuts. Angus, grain fed, tenderloin, 20 day aged....... Limited options of sides basic stuff but who needs it. You pay for whatever you want. The chef expertly pulls the cut you want out of the fridge and slices off exactly what you ask for. You pay by the weight, and not a gram more. No options just salt and pepper. Like meat purists like it and to the perfect doness you request. Not a fan of the hotplate though but I guess the veg options like onion insulate the meat from over cooking. I had the 20 day aged medium. No complaints at all. Will be back if ever I'm in Gion.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had the wagyu, supposed to be 8y per 100g as per the menu, however they told me the price is 6y! Ordered the 200g with medium rare choice. Tasted really good. Too bad I'm not a Japanese, as there was membership offered for diners.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you just want to eat an excellent and tasty steak, go to Ikinari. Some places within this chain restaurant are good. Well let me explain, the meat is amazing and during lunch there are a few menu course which are 200g, 300g and 400g. You just need to choose which part you like and tell them how to cook. They don’t really speak English but the menu is in English. During the evening you can choose how many grams you want to eat directly at the counter and they will cook it for you. You can order a salad or plain/garlic rice as well. The service is not that good depending where you are but the one I went in Kyoto was really good. Afterwards, in this kind of restaurant you just come for the meat and there it is fresh and very well cooked at your taste.
