It is one of the temple (or what’s left of it) which change the direction of Japan and well known history attached for one of the big timer Nobunaga Shogun. There is small museum for Nobunaga, which you may visit. There are 3 narrow entrance and one large one.... it’s really easy to miss it depending on where you are walking from.

The honnoji is replicated and relocated to the current location. But quite a lot of historic monument are restored there. Not only a historical landmark, It also acts as a park for relax in the middle of the town.

It was more of a parking lot than it was a bustling center of commerce and history, but the attendant lady gave me a bunch of little snacks with the stamp I got which was nice. A bit hard to find since it is more of an accessory parking lot than a place of worship.

Honno-ji temple is very famous for the rebelling incident that Oda Nobunaga(1534-1582) was attacked by his retainer Akechi Mitsuhide in 1582. Soon after the incident, tombstone for Nobunaga was built. However because Nobunaga's remains/ashes were not found, his favorite sword were placed. At that time, sword was regarded as spirits of Samurai. In 1591, the temple was moved to this current location by Toyotomi Hideyoshi....The temple is open to public from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. No admission fee. Also they have morning service everyday around 6:00 a.m. ( in winter.) If you are a Nobunaga fan, this is must-see place.

Tucked behind in Kyoto's busy shopping district, Honno-ji was a gem surrounded by modern buildings. Keep your eyes peeled for its small, rustic entryway along a street by a road. Love the magnificent architecture of the temple's main building, as well as the small houses on the temple grounds. There is a small museum holding ancient artefacts as well, which you may visit for a fee.

A small but quiet must see if you love Japanese history. The exhibit was wonderful to see with artifacts relating to Oda Nobunaga and Ranmarus Mori with an iPad providing translations in various languages for most items on display if you don't speak or read much Japanese.
