京都駅と金閣寺とでは、ちょうど京都タワーの高さほどの標高差がある
このため市内には所々、こうしてはっきりと高低差を視認できるスポットがある

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 新京極の起点である三条通からすぐ南側が南に向かって下る坂になっている。この坂は「たらたら坂」などと呼ばれている。隣接する寺町通りや河原町通りにはこのような急な坂はなく、新京極通にのみ存在している。しかも四条通りでは互いはほぼ水平に位置することから、京の不思議として語られることもある。
また此の辺の何処かが弁慶の住居が有ったとされて居るが、調べ居ますが判らないです。
しかし、此処より西300mに弁慶石が有る。
Immediately south of Sanjo-dori, the starting point of Shinkyogoku, is a slope that descends toward the south. This slope is called "Taratara slope". There is no such steep slope on the adjacent Teramachi-dori and Kawaramachi-dori, and it exists only on Shinkyogoku-dori. Moreover, since they are located almost horizontally on Shijo-dori, it is sometimes talked about as a mystery of Kyoto.
Also, it is said that there was a residence of Benkei somewhere around here, but I have investigated it, but I do not know.
However, there is Benkeiishi 300m west of here.
