Great Fire of Meireki The place that was said to be the source of the furisode fire

The origin of the great fire of the Meiji calendar. It is the largest fire in the history of Japan, and it is said to record the number of deaths and the extent of damage after the Great Kanto Earthquake, including fires triggered by the earthquake *. After the great fire, Honmyoji moved to Sugamo, but the temple is still there, including Toyama no Kin-san's grave. In addition, the Edo Castle castle tower, which was burnt down by the fire, was not rebuilt after that. On rare occasions, there are manga works set at the end of the Edo period that depict the castle tower of Edo Castle, but this is a clear mistake. In addition, in order to block the spread of fire such as the great fire of the Meiji calendar, open lands called "fire shelters" and "Hirokoji" were set up in various parts of Edo. A temple that is said to have been the first source of the great fire of the Meiji calendar, which caused the greatest damage among the three major fires of Edo (there is a different theory). According to a different theory, the mansion of Rōjū and Abe Tadaaki next to the temple is the source of the fire, and if it becomes known that the source of the fire is the Rōjū mansion, the prestige of the shogunate will be lost. This theory is that the temple that caused the unprecedented fire was later rebuilt there and was collected by the shogunate as a tentacle, and the Abe family continued to donate a large amount of memorial fees until the Taisho era.
