★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 名称の元になった❬本妙寺❭が無いのに坂の名として残したのは如何なものか。1657年3月2日(明暦3年1月18日)に江戸時代で一番最悪な明暦の大火が起こり、その火元が本妙寺だったそうです。江戸の三分の二が焼失し、十万人以上が焼け死んだと言われてます。また、その時江戸城の天守閣も焼け落ちたそうです。実は、この時に長崎の出島からオランダ使節団が将軍に謁見するために江戸に来ていて、その使節団はこの火事を克明に記録していたそうで江戸東京博物館に[明暦の大火罹災市街の図]というのが所蔵されているそうです。
