★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I loved eating here. The owners were very kind. Beautiful decor. I managed to communicate that I'm a vegetarian and the chef put something together for me, it was delicious and at a very good price. As soon as I sat down I was offered tea which kept getting refilled.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I am not a Japanese food connoisseur but I have been here four months, and this was possibly the best udon I've had. I tried the curry too, and that would make me want to come back as well. The second floor had a great view of the canal, and the service was excellent, with adequate English spoken and on the menu. Loved it!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Been here many times, one of my favorites in Kyoto, a bit pricey and portions are small, but quite a gem for me. There are usual set lunches for a Japanese style restaurant, but it does have obansai sets that is 99% meat free if you have a vegan friend with you. The dashi broth of most Japanese cooking is made from fish, so beware.
