★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 静岡県熱海市から田方郡函南町を貫く丹那トンネルは、1930年（昭和5年）の北伊豆地震や崩落事故を乗り越え、1934年（昭和9年）に開通。それまで御殿場を経由していた東海道本線を大幅に短縮しました。トンネルの総延長は7804メートル、完成当時は鉄道用複線トンネルとしては日本最長でした。
トンネル入口（熱海側）上部の左側に「2578」、右側に「2594」という数字が掲げられていますが、これは着工年（左）と開通年（右）を、皇紀で示しています。
トンネル完成までには16年かかり、事故による犠牲者は67名、難工事だったそうです。
The Tanna Tunnel, which runs from Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture to Kannami Town, Tagata District, was opened in 1934 (Showa 9) after overcoming the 1930 (Showa 5) Kita Izu Earthquake and collapse accident. The Tokaido Main Line, which used to go through Gotemba, has been significantly shortened. The total length of the tunnel is 7804 meters, which was the longest double-track railway tunnel in Japan at the time of completion.
The numbers "2578" are listed on the left side of the upper part of the tunnel entrance (Atami side) and "2594" are listed on the right side, which indicate the year of construction (left) and the year of opening (right) in imperial year.
It took 16 years to complete the tunnel, and 67 people were killed in the accident, which was a difficult construction.
