★ ★ ★ ★ ★ この辺りは、5世紀頃から堰があったとか。嵯峨野に水を引き入れ、農業を広めたそうです。桂川の水面を上げることにより、平安時代には、舟遊びができたらしい。江戸時代には、葛野大堰と呼ばれた堰を改修して、桂川から市街地へ水運が可能に。昭和27年に付近の水利施設が、現在の一ノ井堰に統一されたとか。そして近年、低落差で動く水力発電装置が取り付けられた。昼間に発電・蓄電し、夜に渡月橋の照明に使われるらしい。今も進化を続ける井堰です。
