★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Tasty Japanese delicacies for a ski town. Definitely need to book in advance if you don’t want to wait the 1-hour to get in; they sort of rush you through your meal as well - I’m guessing since there is such a long wait behind you - but if you don’t mind that, then give this place a go!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ saw this soba shop by chance, got in by luck. turns out their booked out but they had a gap of 1hr and they just sit us in. much appreciated. we went ahead to order a wagyu tataki to start and then the soba set with the tempura followed by the milk pudding with soba sauce to end.
first up, the wagyu tataki was impeccable. just done nicely around medium served with daikon and house sauce. the in house handmade buckwheat soba was really smooth and the soup base was really yummy. tempura consist of green pepper, brinjal and a shrimp which was delicious as well. overall a really satisfying meal. will visit again if i come back to hakuba!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This was my first time to come to Haruna, and my hotel owner recommended to have a soba at Zen. Their soba was authentic Nagano style, and it was so delicious. I highly recommend to try their soba. They also have English menu.

Their specialty is 十割蕎麦 (jyuuwari soba). They have lots to offer and fresh ingredients. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for good soba.

The soba was wonderful. I had the tempura soba set and enjoyed every bite of my meal.
If you are in the area, make every effort to eat here! Next time I am in Hakuba I will be back for more.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We loved this spot! Even in the off season (Hakuba felt very quiet during our visit) - still plan for over an hour wait or make a reservation. Some of our favorites were the eggplant salad, fried tofu, tempura soba, and grilled calamari. The restaurant had a great atmosphere and the staff were kind and accommodating! As other reviewers mentioned, there is an English menu available.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Heard this place gets packed but we were lucky to get a table for two with no reservations without having to wait. We had their recommendations and there’s nothing I don’t like. Definitely the best tempura I’ve ever had TBH! My boyfriend had the tempura soba set and it was also very good. If I lived here I would definitely eat here every week lol
