★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Otakodon is great, but the portion is quite small as costing 900yen. The seats are the traditional Japanese Tatami. The table is extremely low, which you basically have to sit up right and straight the whole time cuz it’s impossible to bend down your whole body to eat and your body is definitely gonna be hurt if you do so.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 900 yen for a comforting bowl of oyakodon (literally "mother and child bowl" consisting of chicken, egg, and rice simmered in a salty sweet broth), a cup of chicken soup, and a small plate of pickled daikon. Go here for the beautiful setting in a traditional machiya and the contentment that will fill your heart and belly as you eat here for lunch.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Cute and quirky old house with one thing on the menu: oyakodon (chicken, egg and rice). So no need to order. It comes with a stock soup, which I was told by some friends to my right, I should drink first. It was far tastier than I expected, comfort food in a quiet atmosphere overlooking a garden. 900¥ later and a stroll around the neighbourhood, I’m feeling very satisfied! It might be a bit out of the way for some people, but my guesthouse was round the corner and I’m thinking of going again tomorrow...

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ First of all, the restaurant itself looks very ancient and antique. Go inside the restaurant, you have to sit cross-legged. During lunch hour, there’s just donburi to serve. The donburi tastes amazing. The egg and the chicken are well-cooked, and it has a sightly taste of pomelo. A small cup of chicken soup is provided along with the main dish, which tastes perfect. I highly recommend people travel to Kyoto visit this restaurant.
