This tower was the model for Koda Rohan's five-storied pagoda, but it was burnt down after the war and only the cornerstone remains.

There was a five-storied pagoda that was once built as a landmark of Yanaka Cemetery, and it was a historical building that became a model for Koda Rohan's novel. This tower, which was owned by Tennoji, was donated to Tokyo during the Meiji era and escaped the Great Kanto Earthquake and the war of World War II and entered the postwar period. However, in the early morning of July 6, 1957 (Showa 32), a 48-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman who were working at a sewing shop burned up due to an affair. Currently, only the cornerstone remains, and there is a small park nearby. As an aside, since the foundation stone of the Yanaka Five-storied Pagoda is still alive and the blueprints still exist, it has been argued whether it can be reconstructed and whether it will be erected frequently. However, the site of the five-storied pagoda is a land owned by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and it is not possible to build a private tower. There is a problem, and there is no prospect of reconstruction until today.

After the war, the five-storied pagoda burned and there was no trace. It is now a park, and it is a quiet park where shrubs such as ginkgo trees grow. There is the only police station in Tokyo in one corner, and the lily flowers that the police officer grows neatly are very beautiful, especially at night, with a faint fragrance and a dignified bloom in the moonlight. It's enough to invite you to the frontier. Spring is the flower wave of cherry blossoms, and when it is scattered, the fresh young leaves of maple flourish, and it is handed over to the lily here, and the yellow leaves of ginkgo are splendid in autumn. It's fun to see the long-tailed birds that are lonely in winter but have no choice but to fly around the shrubs.

The first five-storied pagoda of Tennoji was built in 1644, but it disappeared in the 9th year of Meiwa, about 130 years later, due to the great fire of Gyoninzaka, Meguro. The Five-Storied Pagoda, which was rebuilt 19 years later in the third year of Kansei, is also known as a model for Koda Rohan's novel "The Five-Storied Pagoda." It was made of zelkova and had a height of 11 lengths and 2 shakuhachi (34.18 meters), which was the tallest tower in the Kanto region. It was donated to the city of Tokyo in 1908 and became a landmark of Yanaka without encountering any earthquake or war damage, but it disappeared due to arson on July 6, 1957.
