日本の作曲家・箏曲家。兵庫県神戸市生まれ。旧姓は菅（すが）。十七絃の発明者としても知られる。大検校であったため、広く『宮城検校』と呼ばれた。
生涯に大構成の合奏曲から童曲に亘る幅広い作品を300曲以上を制作。
また『雨の念仏』（1935年）などの随筆により文筆家としての評価も高く、川端康成や佐藤春夫らから高評価を得ている。

Japanese composer and composer. Born in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture. The maiden name is Suga. Also known as the inventor of the 17-string koto. Because it was a large inspection school, it was widely called "Miyagi inspection school".
In his lifetime, he has produced more than 300 songs, ranging from large ensemble songs to children's songs.
In addition, he has been highly evaluated as a writer for his essays such as "Ame no Nembutsu" (1935), and has been highly evaluated by Yasunari Kawabata and Haruo Sato.
