★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A traditional Japanese house that was preserved since the Edo period. All the house items, utensils and etc are display like a museum. It gives you a clearly picture on how the Japanese live and understand their culture as there a display that have full elaboration. Nice garden too.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place is pretty huge on the inside and definitely very interesting to see. The staff working there are very accommodating and friendly. They really tried to speak English with us. Try to visit in early morning as there are pop-up shops in front of it. I was able to buy 12apples for only 300yen from a sweet grandma. I was able to take this home with me and gave as omiyage to my friends in Tokyo. I loved that I was able to help small businesses like hers.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We enjoyed touring the well-preserved historic home, especially the latter part of the tour which included informative artifacts and displays. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The buildings have no climate control, with most doors open to the garden views. It was quite cold inside. In addition, visitors must remove their shoes before entering the home. However, we were given plastic bags in which to place our shoes and had to carry the bags for the whole tour. It would be nice to see shelves or lockers installed in the future for shoe storage. Fortunately, they had different sized sandals for visitors to use, including large for our American feet. Overall a nice experience made better by the staff.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ With the entry fee costing ¥440, you will get great experience immersing yourself into Edo Bakufu era (17-19th century). Takayama Jinya was a branch office of the Edo Bakufu (government) from 1692 until 1868 when new government was formed (Meiji government). This place is designated as a National historic site and is the ONLY existing building of its kind in Japan!!!
The winter season in particular is recommended for foreigners who want to enjoy beautiful snow :)
