★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very interesting place to visit. The traditional buildings of this area were very well preserved and some were used as shop. When walking along the street you can feel like you are back to Edo era. Thumb up with the preservation and recommended as one of the must visit place.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Just like a baby Kanazawa. The lanes were less crowded than in Kyoto and Kanazawa. The shops were so interesting and forced you stop and try things constantly. Very picturesque and oozes atmosphere. Loved it. Don’t leave without doing a sake tasting and try the Hida Beef quail egg shooter and sushi for about ¥1,000.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wonderful atmosphere and low crowd level. It is obviously not like Kyoto, but worth a visit if you are in the Gifu area. Plenty of neat dining options and sake. Good combo with one of the ryokans in the area. Most shops are closed by 5 p.m. Visit early.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very nice Edo Period buildings and houses. Well maintained too. Tried the Hida beef sushi and local milk. Both are good. Lots of shops selling local stuffs. Beautiful cherry blossom trees and flowers

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the most historical places we visited in Japan. Mostly, the shop closes on this street by 5 or 6 in the evening. But if you happen to see the stores open, the street is really alive. So much Japanese feels.
There are Japanese foods to try. And really, you should try. Souvenir shops are also open.
During the night, taking a photograph is magical. Specially when someone is riding on a bicycle. Should be added on your Japan to visit places. ??❤️

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Takayama old town is a town dating back to Edo era. They preserved the old buildings in a good way that you feel you are back to that time. Mostly they are now shops, cafes and restaurants, so bring some money to buy souvenirs or eat local food.
