 It was excellent. The chefs are talented and the son speaks good English. I recommend the chef's menu for 5000yens, it's worth them.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This family run restaurant was my favorite food stop in all of Japan, tons of options, a rotating tasting menu. Authentic, friendly, aesthetic. I had a few dishes I have never seen before. all in a very cozy setting. Seating is limited so get there early or make a reservation! Must see spot.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A lovely little family restaurant that we ducked into after seeing it rammed the evening before. On our night we had the restaurant entirely to ourselves which gave us the feel of being family guests rather than customers. This was accentuated by the extremely friendly chat from the owner and his son; mum was a little shyer but equally lovely.
This is the family's 3rd(?) location and I was surprised to hear that the very modern and new feeling restaurant and bay top were actually moved from each of their previous locations. The counter top is actually over 20 years old but the craftsmanship of the work made it honestly feel brand new and smooth like silk.
The food was equally impressive. I can't remember with accuracy what we ate that evening as it's been well over a month since we dined here but I remember it being prepared in perhaps the most confident manner I'd seen in Japan and it was delicious too.
Should we return to Kyoto my wife and I would seek this family out to dine with them again as it really did feel like an evening with friends. Great service.
