I guess this museum is still under maintenance when I visited on April 19th. The museum is only 1/4 open of the 1st floor of its museum. You cannot take picture inside too. Please note that you need to walk more to get there.. its not easy to find the place so make sure you have wifi/data.

VERY small museum, if you can call it that at all... Its basically just a room with interchangeable galleries, the shown gallery is usually dedicated to a specific sumo fighter and shows photos and belongings of him. If you buy a ticket to a sumo contest, you can enter free.

Giving four stars only because of the surrounding area. Inside it will take 2 minutes to see everything. Its free

Interesting place to visit, this sumo museum is small and limited displays. We spent less than 30 minutes the there.

This was a very rare opportunity to be there during a Sumo wrestling tournament, it only happens 3 times a year in Tokyo (I think it was March, May and September), there are other tournaments at different times of the year and in different cities and the tournaments only lasts for 15 days. Tickets sell out quickly for the level 1, but if you wanted seated areas, level 2, book through a tour company is advisable. With the tour, you meet your tour guide who explains the history of Sumo wrestling, train ride to the venue, the entrance fee and the museum. Your guide will spend all day there with you and watch as many bouts (matches) as you want, watch the open ceremony of each day and winner will perform a ritual at the closing ceremony.

Sadly not open the day I went as the tournament was taking place in a different part of Japan. I was gutted but it's still a pretty cool place to visit. Just wish there were some sumo we could see outside tournaments. Will definitely be back again.

Sumo is the national sports of Japan. Sumo wrestlers take time to train and take pride to represent Japan ?? culture. I had the opportunity of watching sumo in Tokyo. Sumo competition is only held about four times a year. I was fortunate to watch sumo in September when I visited Japan.
