★ ★ ★ ★ ★ この境内に雲水に化けて住んでた狐。宗旦(利休の孫)に化け茶会で見事なお点前を披露 更に門前の豆腐屋の破産を救ったと云う逸話から、建てられたのが、この稲荷社 開運の神なんですね。目立たない神なんですが 大切にしたいですね。

宗旦稲荷の由来
江戸時代の初め頃、相国寺境内に一匹の白狐が住んでいました。その狐はしばしば茶人・千宗旦(1578-1658)に姿を変え、時には雲水にまじり坐禅をくみ、また時には寺の和尚と碁を打つなどして人々の前に姿を現していました。
宗旦になりすましたその狐は、近所の茶人の宅へ赴いては茶を飲み菓子を食い荒らすことがたびたびであったが、ある時、宗旦狐は相国寺塔頭慈照院の茶室びらきで、点前を披露していました。驚いたことにその点前は実に見事なもので、遅れてきた宗旦はその事に感じ入ったといいます。これも、宗旦の人となりを伝えた逸話である。
その伝承のある「頤神室(いしんしつ)」は現在でも慈照院に伝えられている。茶室の窓は、宗旦狐が慌てて突き破って逃げたあとを修理したので、普通のお茶室より大きくなってしまったという。
宗旦狐は店先から油揚げを盗み、追いかけられ井戸に落ちて死んだとも、猟師に撃たれて命を落としたとも伝えられている。化けていたずらをするだけでなく、人々に禅を施し喜ばせていたという宗旦狐の死を悼み、雲水たちは祠をつくり供養した。それが今でもこの宗旦稲荷として残ってる。 相国寺
