It seems that this is the first studio in Kyoto. It seems that Shozo Makino and others also started from here.

Those who are involved in the film are never forgiven to remove the Nijo Castle shooting site, Makino Shozo and his son, Makino Masahiro & Mitsuo's brother. "Don't talk about Japanese movies without knowing the relics of Makino!" Is the words of Masahiko Makino (Masahiko Tsugawa), who is now dead.津 '', Tsugawa / Masahiko Makino talked about the early days of the movie studio in Uzumasa, met Makino Director Masahiro, and listened to the story of the movie shop in Uzumasa Let me know

Japanese movies started here.
The first photo studio in Kyoto was opened by the Yokota Shokai of Naganosuke Yokota (1872-1943) in 1910 (Meiji 43) on a land of 300 tsubo under the southwest tower of Nijo Castle. In this area, Shozo Makino (1877-1929), who is said to be the father of Japanese movies, formed a combination with Matsunosuke Onoue (1876-1926) and filmed his first work, "Chushinzura." It was used for two years until the Hokkeido Shooting Station (go down 1 Gojo Street, Kamigyo-ku). This stone mark shows the trace of the Nijo Castle photo studio.

It is in the green belt of Chukyo Junior High School. It is a place where you can tell that it is an indispensable place when talking about Japanese movies.

About 5 minutes walk from JR Nijojo station. It is located near the southwest turret of Nijo Castle, outside the grounds along the schoolyard of Nakagyo Junior High School. The title "Site of Nijo Castle Studio" is written by Yorikane Masumoto, the former mayor of Kyoto.
In 1910, Yokota Shokai, the predecessor of Nikkatsu, opened the Nijo Castle Studio here, about 300 tsubo beside this Nijo Castle. It seems that many historical films were shot. (However, it seems that the activity period was only about two years and a new studio was built near Onmae-dori Ichijo ...)
In addition, the stone monument that feels like a screen (somehow) with a film and camera design is as follows.
"Kyoto, the capital of history and culture, is the birthplace of Japanese cinema and the capital of cinema. In 1910, at the foot of the world cultural heritage" Nijo Castle, "Yokota Shokai of Einosuke Yokota The first studio in Kyoto, "Nijo Castle Studio", was opened. The scale of this studio is as simple as setting up a low-sized itajiki stage of 2 x 4 on a land of about 300 tsubo and covering it with a awning that can be opened and closed.
