Shin-Fuji Station - Fuji

素敵な駅ですが離れてちょっと不便 Nice enough station but too far from City Center. Not to be confused with Fuji station! This Shinkansen station wss solely built to satisfy religious groups. Impractical and very profitable for local taxis. Barely good enough shopd.

Nothing exciting about this station and unlike Shizuoka-shi, the shinkansen is very far from the regular train station.

we stopped here on the way from kyoto to tokyo to attempt to see mt. fuji. it is a shinkansen stop for the kodama (slowest) train, but we took the faster nozomi upto the previous stop and then the kodama to get to shin-fuji. our main concern here was storage for our luggage as we walked around the town, before departing for tokyo. we were concerned about (a) finding free lockers and (b) finding sufficiently large lockers (for our larger pieces). we did find free lockers and they could hold all but our largest piece. luckily, and this is the pro tip, there is a visitor center (shin-fuji tourist information center) and, yes (!), they have a storage service that accepts large pieces for the same price as the large lockers. attached are pictures of the storage lockers which (i think) shows hours of operation. as can be seen they range in size from small (Y200), to medium (Y400) to large (Y500). other points: - the lady at the visitor center spoke english and was very helpful and pleasant. - fuji station is a different station from this one (shin-fuji). a taxi ride is what we did to get between the 2 stations. - shin-fuji station is in (apparently) an industrial area (per the visitor center lady) and she suggested we stop at fujinomiya which is a approx. 20-25 minute bus ride from the station or a train ride from the fuji station. - mt. fuji can be seen fairly well from the station, though the day we were there, the middle section of the mountain was hidden in clouds (the peak was visible, though).

On a good i.e. clear day, you can get a pretty stunning and HUGE view of Mount Fuji. Picture perfect, as long as you do not mind the modern buildings in the foreground. Station itself is compact and straight-forward. The souvenir store has loads of products associated with Mount Fuji, the Kaguya-Hime myth, and Shizuoka tea.

On clear days , you can see Mt Fuji. You can take photos of Shinkansen with Mt Fuji as the background. Only thing bad is that the local Fuji train station is a 25 min walk or you need to take a bus over. This station is very clean and convenient . There is a Toyoko hotel next to it.
