Located in the south of Tsuchimikado and the west of Karasuma, each building was built according to the Heian Palace in the territory of Minamoto no Moroto. Since Emperor Toba moved from the Sanjo Karasuma Imperial Palace in 1117, it was the inside of the temple until he was transferred, but it was burnt down in 1146.
The inner back of the Tsuchimikado was a town-scale back of the village that was used by the three emperors of Toba (1103-1156), Takanori (1119-1164), and Konoe (1139-1155) for about 30 years. It was the first Satouchi palace built to imitate the Heiankyo Heian palace, where the Tomimon residence was originally located at the time of Minamoto no Moroto (1077-1136). It was often burned down and rebuilt due to fires, but the reconstruction in 1156 was canceled due to the Hogen rebellion and it was abolished. This stone marker shows the trace of the village.
According to "Kyoto Bome Magazine", it is unknown that Seiwain was located here in the Middle Ages. The Tsuchimikado-den of Fujiwara no Michinaga's residence and Seiwain, which is located to the north of it, were located near the current Kyoto Gyoen Sento Imperial Palace.

The other day at Kyoto Garden Palace, there was a piece tag on the back of Tsuchimikado. By the way, the site of Tsuchimikado is located to the west of Seiwain-Gomon (Teramachi Hirokoji) in the Kyoto Imperial Palace.
