★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We were here in early-mid February 2020 when the plum blossoms were close to full bloom. They were beautiful various colours and the sweet scent of the blossoms would hit you as soon as you get close to the entrance. There is a Lawson's and public bathroom in the grounds for your convenience.

On the east side of the inner moat, it is about 1.7 ha in size and nearly 1,270 plums
It is planted. In the early spring, you can see colorful and splendid flowers
It is crowded with visitors.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sakura happened in Mar 2017 right as we arrived in Osaka. This garden is VERY MUCH the best spot for a photo of the castle, of the flowers or yourself. Plan on a good 2h to enjoy it all!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Flowering plum (ume) orchard well-known to locals. Area is flat and great for walking. Trees were just beginning to flower (mid-January 2020). Although access to individual trees is restricted, flowers in bloom are easily accessible for taking photos since trees are low and located adjacent to walkways. Visitors can rest and relax in the large open area with many benches. There is a drink vending machine and a seasonally opened convenience store stand. Most easily reached from Osaka-jo Koen station on the Loop Line.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful even in early January! Most of the trees were knotted, gnarled, and barren, though a few beautiful trees had white, pink, or yellow blossoms that were astonishingly fragrant. Personally, I found the yellow blossoms to smell the best, and you can smell the scent just from standing near the tree.
