泥湯の素、地球が生きている、このあたりは活火山なんだと思わされます

昔、牛方（牛を使って荷物を運ぶ人）の男が行商の道中、強盗に襲われ半殺しに合う
八幡平の地獄谷で傷を癒していた所、哀れに思った巡礼中の娘が看病し親しくなった２人は一緒に暮らす様になる
しかし男には妻子が居た
妻が男の前に現れその事実を知った娘は煮え滾った地獄に身を投じる
それを見つけた妻は夫の命の恩人を犠牲にしてしまった事を悔やみそれに続く
男は殺生の罪と前生の悪縁を払って貰い村に帰り一生妻帯せず子供を育てた
オナメ（妾）モトメ（本妻）の霊を後生を掛け祈りながら
それ以来、地獄谷は「オナメ（妾）モトメ（本妻）」と呼び、「後生掛」と称する様になった…らしい

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really good. Walkways allow you to get up close to see the mud volcanos. Lot I f variety in views and sights. We spent about 2 hours here and left with a feeling of it was worth it

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing to see the hot water burst out from the ground. There is a well maintained path you can go through. You will see lots of areas make sound while hot water comes out as mud. Just amazing
