It is a large swamp where hot water boils. Kana snakes were sunbathing on the walking path up to that point.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 後生掛温泉の正面入口のそばから、歩道が延びています。進んだ先に、別世界の様な、とってもきれいな沼があります。
A sidewalk extends from the front entrance of Goshogake Onsen. There is a very beautiful swamp like another world ahead.

そう思わせるような大きな吹き出し口があちこちにありました。
覗ける穴の底にボコンボコンと音を立ててガスが吹き出しているのが恐ろしくもあり興味深くもあります。
熊に遭遇しましたが、この辺りの熊はヒグマの血が混ざってて普通のツキノワグマより大きく感じました。
It seems to be the best mud volcano in Japan.
There were big outlets here and there that made me think so.
It is terrifying and interesting that the gas blows out at the bottom of the hole that you can see with a noise.
I encountered a bear, but the bears around here felt bigger than normal black bears because of the blood of brown bears.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 2021年7月、散策路一部決壊で通行できず、大湯沼へは遠回りせねばなりません。
一つ減点の理由はそこではなくて、自然現象にもうちょっと近くアプローチしたいな、と。ヤケドやら火山ガスの危険はあるでしょうけど。
とは言え、やっぱり散策道やロープを越えるのは危険性です。地面かと思っても下が空洞になっているかもしれないのでご注意を。
In July 2021, some of the walking paths were broken and we couldn't pass, so we had to make a detour to Oyunuma.
One reason for the deduction is not there, but I want to approach natural phenomena a little closer. There is a danger of burns and volcanic gas.
However, it is still dangerous to cross walking paths and ropes. Please note that the bottom may be hollow even if you think it is the ground.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ わざわざこれを目当てに訪問するほどではないが、後生掛温泉に泊まるのであれば、空き時間の散歩にオススメの場所。道中の景色も地獄のように道端に泡がぶくぶくしており面白い。
It's not enough to visit for this purpose, but if you're staying at Goshogake Onsen, it's a recommended place for a walk in your spare time. The scenery along the way is also interesting with bubbles on the side of the road like hell.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 後生掛温泉の建物に向かって左側の遊歩道から入って行きます。幅広のコンクリートなので歩きやすいです。ただ「
熊注意」の看板がありました。泥火山を見ながら10分程度歩くと到着です。周囲にロープが張ってあるので水辺(湯辺?)までは近寄れません。近くの小高い所に東屋があるので池が全貌できます。

There was a sign saying "Be careful of bears". You will arrive after walking for about 10 minutes while watching the mud volcano. There is a rope around it so you can't get close to the waterside (Yube?). There is an eastern house in a small high place nearby, so you can see the whole pond.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 19年振りに訪れました。遊歩道そばで噴出するようになって、立ち入り禁止になったりしてる所もあり、年月の経過と共に変化している、生きているんだと感動しました。是非お勧めします！
I visited for the first time in 19 years. I was impressed that I was alive, changing with the passage of time, as there were places where it started to spout near the promenade and was off limits. I highly recommend it!
