★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A great Unagi only restaurant! Upon arrival sign in register then staff will inform u of booking times- likely minimum 20 minutes wait at the very least. A numbered card would be issued n an estimated seating time will be given so that u may browse at the surrounding area instead of standing in line(great idea). Upon entrance, It’s a traditional restaurant with ground floor n upper floor seating. Decor is wooden n very nice, befitting a traditional restaurant. Many local Patrons, some dressed in kimono and it all adds to the ambience. Prices are slightly high but then again it’s a top rated restaurant and payment is via cash only. Unagi arrives steaming hot with soup n accompanying tsukemono. The sauce is just nice n the eel is tender and not overly grilled. An average portion would be the medium box n that should set u back 3,500 yen if I can remember correctly. Tea is provided with no charge. Waiting staff are helpful n give advice on served dishes. The meal was very enjoyable and the Unagi excellent. Highly recommended if one should be in Kawagoe.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The store has opened for at least two hundred years, definitely a must-to-try restaurant when visiting Kawagoe. We ordered smoked eel dong (4500yen or thereabouts per set), includes pickles and soup, Japanese style pepper powder served on each table can elevate the flavor but not really spicy so please remember to add it!

Other than eel, another must try is fried fish bone!
Pricey but worth!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Price a bit high and need to queue up for around 30 mins. It’s an old historic building and have two levels. But for me it’s not worth to queue so long and pay at that price to taste it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Quality Unagi eel. Ordered Supreme unadon (tokku-jo). Rather than juicy and tender, eel was thick and firm, but in pleasant way. Served with right amount of rice as well.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The best eel I've had. Good thing we reserved in advance or else we could've waited outside forever. I had the normal size eel and rice which came with pickles and soup. My friend had the biggest sized eel and rice. The quality of eel is the same but the size of the eel is so big u can't see the rice. Super soft and the sauce is just spectacular- I can eat bowls of rice all day with this sauce! Staff are very friendly and interior is authentic. Recommend if you're in the area!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was never crazy about unagi and often just thought it as a dish that is too pricy and overrated. But the unagi at this place is definitely amazing! Even the soup was so tasty and fresh. I would love to come back here again.
