In addition to exhibits of calligraphy and paintings by Kozan Takai, a cultural figure from the late Edo period, you can also climb the mansion. The picture of the youkai is charming and interesting. The building in the mansion is also clean and wonderful.

09/24/2019 Collection and display of materials related to Takai Hiyama, a high-class merchant who was a painter, calligrapher, thinker, and literary artist at the end of Edo * You can actually enter the building. You can feel a part of the lives of old Australian merchants. There is a chestnut tree in the garden. Entry fee of 300 yen is cheap considering the buildings, gardens, and paintings on display.

A young wealthy merchant in his thirties invites an elderly Hokusai. It's smart. A quaint building. garden. There were no people around, so it seemed like I had traveled back in time. As it is, I wander around the chestnut path and am attracted to the brick chimney of Matsubaya (brewery) When I took a picture and went out to the main street, I encountered a boy's elementary school student on his way home from school. "Where are you from? Where are you going next?" I was happy to be surrounded by good-looking guys. It was a rush from Zenkoji → Matsushiro → Obuse, but I enjoyed it.

At the site of a wealthy farmer's mansion, there are many calligraphy works owned by the Takayama family and Ito Jakuchu's chicken group paintings.

I've been to Obuse many times, but I happened to see it on a national broadcast Hokusai program, so I came here for the first time. Kozan himself practiced painting in Kyoto at an old wealthy merchant's house, and he seemed to have a close relationship with cultural figures and artists at that time, and it seems that he was also close to Hokusai in that relationship. If you come to Obuse, you should see it as a set with Hokusaikan. The admission fee is ¥ 300, and the common ticket for the Hokusai-kan and Obuse Museum is ¥ 1300 with a discount of ¥ 500. The place is the tourist center of Obuse, less than 5 minutes walk from Hokusaikan. There was also a parking lot for about 10 cars.

The Takai family, who created the current culturally high Obuse, can see a part of the completion of the wonderful town development in the Edo period by inviting Hokusai to bloom their talents.

I hesitated at first to pay the 300 yen admission, but it was well worth it. This is a small part of the family estate of the man who was Hokusai's patron and an accomplished artist in his own right. The grounds are small but well-kept, the small collection of artwork is interesting, and the building that served as his study is wonderful to explore. Doesn't take a whole lot of time either, so convenient to fit into a visit to Obuse.

Stillness fills the air with creativity. I loved this place. While wandering around the local area l came across the museum. It's absolutely beautiful, l was the only person visiting so had the place to myself. I really enjoyed exploring the house and felt at ease. There is a musical instrument that you can kneel down and play. (l tried to find out what it's called.) I sat in the ground enjoying the silence and the nature of the museum. It's full of history and well worth a visit. Has limited parking, toilet and a shop, also free tea you can sit and take in the atmosphere. We'll worth a visit. I wasn't allowed to take photos, so will post some of the local surroundings so you get the feel of the atmosphere of the area thus building quietly sits. Ps... There are lots of local gardens open to the public.
