There are some ridges in this mountain castle, but each ridge is cut with an empty moat, and the excavated soil is raised to make it an earthwork. The main enclosure is divided into three sections. The koguchi is bent so that the enemy cannot easily enter it, and it seems that there were gates from the stone walls on both sides. Behind the main enclosure is a large earthwork, and the mountain side is a deep empty moat that continues above. Haibara Castle is known as the residence of Mr. Haibara (Mr. Murai), a vassal of Mr. Ogasawara, the guardian of Shinano. In the invasion of Shinano by Shingen Takeda in 1550 (Tenbun 19), he was first attacked and fell. After the destruction of Mr. Takeda, when Sadayoshi Ogasawara, the third son of Nagato Ogasawara, regained Fukashi Castle with the support of Ieyasu Tokugawa, this castle was also regained and renovated. At present, you can see the remains of stone walls, earthworks, and ridge-shaped pits on the ruins of the castle. The entrance to the castle is at Renge-ji Temple.
