★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Best restaurant I've been during my 8-day trip to japan. The food was delicious and reasonably priced, and the staff was extremely kind. The waitress took time to talk with us despite our broken japanese. It can get a bit busy, but definitely worth the wait if you can.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I would come all the way to Kurama just to eat here again. The food is amazing, staff is excellent, and the venue makes you feel like you're eating in someone's home (the restaurant is machiya style). Come here to eat especially if you've got the Kurama, Kibune Sansaku Ticket, as when you show the waitress your ticket you get a special discount or inclusion with your meal. In addition to my food that I ordered, I got a free mochi of my choosing (I chose Cinnamon mochi and it was absolutely delicious) and a small appetizer of different tofu!! Amazing food. I'll always remember the taste and experience from here.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Small udon and soba eatery just a short walk from Kurama Station (on the foot of Kurama Temple gate). Looks small from the outside but there are 2-3 tables with 2-4 chairs on the front and 4 big tables with tatami floor on the back part. Came with our 2 kids and ordered kitsune udon, yasaiten zaru soba (soupless soba with vegetables tempura), tendon (rice with tempura topping) and isobe mochi (grilled mochi with soy sauce). They provided small cutleries for our kids which was great. Food was tasty, fresh (udon and soba are homemade) and worth the money.
