Hyakunin Isshu is a collection of poems selected by the Fujiwara no Teika, one by one, and is made of colored paper as a decoration for the sliding doors of Ogura Sanso in Sagano.
So to speak, Ogurayama is like the head temple of Hyakunin Isshu.
Hyakunin Isshu has a song about Ogurayama.
"Momijiha of Ogurayama Mine, if you have a heart, Miyuki Matanamu once again" (Sadanobu, Hyakunin Isshu)
Introducing other songs related to Ogurayama
"Evening night, in the voice of a deer crowing in the mountains of Ogura, autumn lives" (Ki no Tsurayuki / Kokinshu)
"I don't have a stag, near the foot of the mountain in Kokura, I'm just living alone." (Saigyo)
"Autumn colors at the foot of Mt. Ogura are struck by the wind on the treetops" (Saigyo)
"If you go to the village at the foot of Mt. Ogura, you can see the moon on the treetops" (Saigyo)
It seems that Ogurayama is associated with "autumn" and "deer".

I climbed from the Kameyama district of Arashiyama Park. On the way, there are a few places with a good view that double as rest areas. However, the view is not good because the top is surrounded by trees. The descent went down in the direction of Rokucho Pass, but it was a cliff and a poor foothold.

Shrub flowers bloom near the entrance. There is no view from the top, but the view of Kyoto while climbing, especially the view of Hirosawa Pond and Narabigaoka, is fresh and unique.

There is an observatory, but I can't see anything.
The only phrase I read about the beauty of the autumn leaves of Mt. Ogura, Hyakunin Isshu, was struck by a tree.
However, the location is difficult to understand. I passed by once.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Man what a disappointment! After a 1.5 hour hike through unmarked trails, including ending up at a dead end, and then deciding to hike up the side of the mountain to another (potential) trail, what awaited at the top of the mountain was: a couple signs saying it was the top of the mountain. That's it. The rest of the hike around the outside of the mountain and along the river were great! But skip the mountain top if you can. When there's a choice, go left, not up.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My dog found this hiking train by chance this evening. Without any expectation or plan to reach the top we just walked along the trails - we had a one-hour evening walk here instead of walking in the park or tourist areas, which was good enough (but I wouldn’t really recommend to those who are here with a purpose to hike - you may find not so satisfying for reasons as others have mentioned).
Although there is nothing much to see (you can hear the sound of the river but can’t really see it from the mountain), I quite like this cute little trail. It is like walking in the woods in a fairy tale - there are no signs etc, you just walk and see where it will bring you to. The trails are narrow but rather flat. Easy to walk.
We picked up quite some trash along the way though.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A great view spot. You can go from Arashiyama park. Highly recommended to go when you are at Arashiyama. It takes about 30min to climb up to the view spot. You don’t need to wear mountain shoes but sneakers are bit slippery. You will get sweat a lot when it’s hot. You should be preparing for some drinks before climbing.
