Not only from all over Japan, a lot of people visit Kinkakuji from all over the world. However, Kinkakuji is located a little outside of central Kyoto. Unlike major tourist sites, Kinkakuji is less crowded. We wanted to welcome those people who visit Kinkakuji with a little fun which you can imagine of Kinkakuji. That is how “Kinkaku Soft”(soft-served ice cream) was created.

It's a very small place, take-out only. be sure to look for the banner and road signage to find it.
i think its fine to experience once but i felt the matcha taste was too light.
there are other stores around that serve the ice-cream with gold sprinkles if you dont wanna pay the price.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 950 JPY just to say you ate gold ice cream. The ice cream didn’t really have any wow factor in the terms of flavor. The Matcha ice cream was pretty standard to the others in the area. The price is steep if you just want ice cream.
They don’t have an option to get it without the gold, so know that’s the only option. It comes with sweet red beans and 2 Mochi on the side. This is the standard and they don’t make other options beside matcha, vanilla or swirl for the ice cream flavor.
The gold adds nothing in terms of flavor and only adds visual appeal. Honestly, I would recommend other ice cream in the area.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This soft ice cream shop went above and beyond anything we could expect. So gorgeous and beautiful one. This is the first experience that EAT the gold. So happy to have it after seeing golden temple :) The location is just in front of main gate of Golden temple. We loved it since not many sweets shop around. The shop was very clean and owner was very friendly guy! Air conditioner was extremely helpful since Kyoto was very hot. We were very lucky finding this shop :) I would definitely recommend stepping by here. Thank you so much!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Costs a bit more than ice cream without literal gold on it, as you'd expect. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and will hold up a black lacquer screen to help you get an even better photo of your ice cream :)
