★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 平成時代に再建された玉照姫と藤原兼平の像を祀るお堂です。お堂の前にある作り直された「笠寺観音の歴史」を読むと、玉照姫の話はまるで日本版シンデレラのような話ですね。佳人薄命の逆を行く話です。とても興味深いです。そしてその玉照姫が元になってこのお寺が笠覆寺（りゅうふくじ）という名前になったということもよく分かりました。まさに縁結びに相応しいお話ですね。
更に説明には二人の位牌とその時の笠が今でも残っているとありましたが、位牌はともかく、本当に笠も残っているのでしょうか？できれば一度見てみたいものです。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 本堂前にあるお堂。笠覆寺(笠寺)の名前の由来となったエピソードがある。
雨ざらしでびしょ濡れだった観音様を見て、自分がかぶっていた笠を被せた女は、京からやってきた青年貴族・藤原兼平公にみそめられ、長者の家で仕えていたところから、京に召され、兼平公と結ばれ、玉照姫(たまてるひめ)と呼ばれる事となった。
夫妻はその巡り合わせを深く観音様に感謝し、この地に大いなる堂を建て、そこに笠をかぶせた観音さまをお祀りし、笠を被った寺＝笠覆寺(りゅうふくじ)と名付けたことから、笠寺の名の由来となった。彼らの思いと、その良き縁を自らも結ぼうと、現在もこの笠寺観音にお祀りされている、観音様とご夫妻をお参りに来る人は絶える事がない。
縁結ばれた事によって玉照姫・兼平公ご夫妻は寺を再建し、後々までその伝説は縁結び参りと共に語り継がれてきた。
玉照姫・兼平公ご夫妻のご位牌は、現在に至るまで笠寺観音に安置されています。明治以来およそ100年ぶりに「玉照堂」を再建しました。姿の良い木造のお堂が本堂東前側に建っています。

Tamateruhime and Mr. and Mrs. Kanehira rebuilt the temple because of the marriage, and the legend has been handed down with the marriage.
The mortuary tablets of Tamateruhime and Kanehira have been enshrined in Kasaderakannon until now. The "Tamashido" was rebuilt for the first time in about 100 years since the Meiji era. A nice wooden hall is built on the east front side of the main hall.
