Smells of sulfur but the water and surroundings are gorgeous.

A cute little pond you can visit by pulling your car to the side of the road. A natural hot spring feeds into the pond so the water and the little river leading up into it are lukewarm. We went to see the pond just as it was snowing a little and the mist coming off the water was ethereal. It may not be a place you can spend all day or even really an hour at but it's a neat little place to stop by if you're in the area.

It was a very small sightseeing spot and it might probably take you less than 5 minutes see it all.

Jigokunuma looks like a hot spring pond to me but it is exactly a crater lake. There was a signboard displaying “地獄沼” which means 'Hell Lake '. After travelling through the Hakkoda snow corridor towards the direction of Sukayu Onsen, we stopped by the roadside beside Jigokunuma and posed for pictures at the 'Hell Lake'. Back in April 2016, my Japanese sister brought us here with my younger sister and her husband, I remember the signboard reads “じごく沼”。
