室町時代前半頃に作成された石棺の一部を利用し、毘沙門天像尊像が彫られています。播磨では唯一の例で、珍しい石棺仏ですとのことで、八幡神社社殿脇から、ワクワクしながら裏山の山頂に登り始めると、下山中の方から「無い」と言われてしまいました。実際に見に行くと調べた場所に石棺仏はありませんでした・・気になったので史跡に関係する役所に問い合わせると、保存状態の関係やイベントでの展示物として市の教育委員会による保存扱いになり、現状ではこの場所へ戻す予定は無いそうです。ネットや書籍による写真確認以外ではイベント等での特別公開をチェックして見に行くか、別の場所での常設展示も検討はされているようですが未定とのことです。場所的には他にも探せば何かありそうな雰囲気の場所ではありますが、石棺仏目当てでは残念ではありますが見れないとのことで評価は下げています。
