幽霊が出そうなくらいに人気（ひとけ）がなかったからとか。今は別名になったのですね。
一歩では登れないし二歩では足がつっかえてしまう、なんとも不思議な幅の階段です。
In the Showa era, it was called Yuurei-zaka.
It wasn't so popular that it seemed like a ghost. It has become another name now.
It's a staircase with a mysterious width that you can't climb in one step and your legs get stuck in two steps.

昔、この辺りは七軒寺町という寺町で、この坂の上に宝竜寺という寺があったためこう呼ばれた。
また明治頃、寺の樹木が繁り、淋しい坂であり、幽霊が出るといわれたため、幽霊坂ともよばれた。
