We stopped on the way back from Soseki Sanbo Memorial Hall. It is built narrowly between stores. There was an explanation board that was added last year and when it was installed.

It was beside a good eaves. Along with the stone monument, various information about Natsume Soseki was written, so I wanted to read them in detail, but it was a pity that I couldn't see them slowly in a busy area.

Natsume Soseki has a grave and a memorial hall, but there was even a monument to his birth.

It is under Natsumezaka. It seems that Professor Soseki was born in this place in the third year of Keio.

I visited the Soseki Park, where a memorial hall was set up. There are only monuments and explanations, but there are various places around Soseki near Ushigome, so I think it's a good starting point for the Soseki Walk.

Natsume Soseki was born as the fifth son of Natsume Kobei, a master of Ushigome Baba Shimoyokocho (now Kikuicho) at the end of the Edo period (1867, Keio 3). After being adopted, he lived in Asakusa and lived in London, Matsuyama and Kumamoto, but at the end he returned to Ushigome to live as a writer and died (there is now the Shinjuku Ward Soseki Sanbou Memorial Hall built. There). The west exit of Waseda subway station and the climb to Natsume-zaka is at the attachment point between buildings. Since the monument, the explanatory signboard and the phrase monument are packed in a fairly narrow section, if you take a picture from the front, the signboard and the monument will be half hidden, and the menu of the restaurant of the chain store next door will be reflected.

There is a monument and an explanation board, and the explanation board says as below. Soseki Natsume (real name Kinnosuke) was born here on January 5, 1867, as the youngest of Naokatsu Natsume Kobei and Chie's fifth son and third daughter. The Natsume family is the owner of the 11 towns around Ushigome Babashitacho, and the name of Kikui-cho is named after the family crest of the Natsume family, "Hosoi Tsutsu ni Kiku", and Natsumezaka is also the Natsumezaka family. It is said that it was named after. Shortly after birth, Soseki was sent to a foster child shop in Yotsuya, but soon returned to his birthplace and was adopted by Masanosuke Shiobara, the master of Naito Shinjuku. At the age of nine, he returned to his parents' home with Shiobara, and at the age of 21, he returned to the Natsume family. The childhood in this area is described in detail in the essay "Inside my glass doors" written in the Taisho era. This monument was erected by Shinjuku Ward in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Soseki's birth in 81966 (Showa 41), and the title is written by Soseki's disciple Yoshishige Abe.

Immediately next to Waseda Station on the Tozai Subway Line Natsume Soseki seems to have thought that his parents were older children and his mother wasn't particularly happy. I've become more than that, but if I don't do my best, I'll die lonely If you talk to the cast at a concafe in Kabukicho, walk down Natsumezaka to save transportation costs, and look at the monument, you will be able to learn more about what you are doing.
