平安神宮の公式サイト。1895年平安遷都1100年を期に市民の総社として創建。平安京の正庁(朝堂院)を模した朱塗りの社殿が美しく平安京の雅な雰囲気が漂う。本殿を囲む約3万㎡におよぶ回遊式庭園、神苑は、春の紅しだれ桜や初夏の花菖蒲等、四季折々に美しい景色が広がる。毎年10月22日の時代祭は平安神宮の祭礼で、京都三大祭の一つ。また大鳥居は京都・岡崎のランドマークとして広く知られ多くの人が訪れる

g	gradhito on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This bright colored shrine has a really huge grounds to explore. There is also an event hall. At first I was reluctant enough to visit the shrine's garden, which has an entrance fee (shrine complex is free to enter and pay your respect to) and it was almost closing time since I arrived around 3 pm. However when I finally had mustered up a decision to check out the ticket price, turns out that day was free of charge. lucky! Taking a stroll round the garden was the highlight of my visit, they have lots of different plants and trees, and also a lake with a resting bridge just before you exit the garden.
A	Adam C on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The shrine itself is extremely large, if a bit plain visually, and free to visit. The garden behind requires an entry free. It’s quite large as well and has a nice amount of variety but isn’t nearly as picturesque in autumn as the other famous gardens in Kyoto. If you want a long leisurely walk with some peace and quiet it’s a good option though.

No crowds when we visited which allowed the kids to explore the grounds while the adults admired the buildings. Be sure to check out the four statues representing the four cardinal directions (blue dragon - East; white tiger - West; black turtle - North; and I can’t remember - South).
