★ ★ ★ ★ ★ These shops where you can taste local sake very casually for a coin a shot are simply awesome. I dont get how they are not all over Japan. A must try when in Yuzawa. Not to be missed if you like sake.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ There are plenty of traditional rice wine (sake) to choose from. Also there is a sake tasting area (¥500) where u can pick from over 100 choices!
Various Rice, soy sauce, miso and pickled vegetables are available for your purchase.
And why not finish the whole trip with a super giant rice ball (size of your fist) starting from (¥520).

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you like to do sample sizes of different sake, you will love this place - Ponshukan at JR station Echigo-Yuzawa. With 500yen, you get 5 tokens and a sake cup. Then you go around the different sake dispensers and chose to redeem the sake you want to try with the tokens. Most just need 1 token whereas the more premium ones costs 2-3 tokens for a cup. Remember it is a small sake cup only so don’t be too happy.... there are also other snacks counters outside the hall.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Must visit if you are over 16 and love/want to try sake. Personally I like this one at Echigo-Yuzawa more than its sister branch in Niigata City.
Ponshukan Sake Museum, split between three big JR stations in Niigata (*), allows you to sample different sake produced by local sake breweries across Niigata. Only 500 yen for 5 tokens - though some more luxury sake require more than 1 token.
(*) The Echigo-Yuzawa branch is located inside the JR station next to CoCoLo shopping mall. The Niigata City branch is near the south exit of Niigata station. The Nagaoka branch is located right outside the ticketing machine of the station (personally haven’t visited yet - perhaps will plan a trip to visit next time).

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Not only taste different kinds of sake but also shop all round of local food and snacks. Besides sake, I also bought lots of Japanese noddles as well. Don’t forget to try their restaurant at Ground floor. It’s yum.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We can enjoy many kinds of sake with only 500 yen. It was too crowded with many tourists... The selection is very plentiful, so I could not enjoy everything but each of them have various characters. It is because I like sake the best. You can buy it if you find sake you like.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing sake brewery tour in English. The guide is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They can give many cool facts about sake that are hard to learn about otherwise! There's even a fun photo opportunity at the end of the tour, as well as an excellent sake tasting experience!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A place for sake tasting. Located inside JR Echigo Yuzawa. A really weird and spectacular place. Too many kinds of sake were presented as vending machine. At first while you enter the staff will give you tasting cups. Japanese cucumbers with too many kinds of salt was so delicious. Always crowded. The shop was easily saw. You will see their mascot, the large figure of drunken guy lay down in front of the shop.
