★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really lovely place, and absolutely charming.The staff are very sweet and friendly (as well as english friendly), and the quality was great, especially for the price. Loved the beef lunch set, their coffee and their soup. It might be a little bit difficult to find and slightly away from more popular and touristy areas, but it is an gem, and worth every yen.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Absolutely outstanding meal! I loved it so much, I asked if they had a Michelin reference... It was honestly that good. On par with the Michelin-reviewed dining we did while in Tokyo (and half the price!) - If you go to Arashiyama, DEFINITELY go here. Friendly staff and English speaking. Order the Prix Fixe Beef menu :)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place is truly one of my favorites. I lived in Japan for a long time and took so many of my friends and visitors there.
Like any great/fancy/expensive restaurant in Japan, you can eat lunch for a very affordable price--but I really do recommend spending the money for dinner, because the quality is truly superior and worth every cent.
So, I got the impression this place is most famous for their vegetables (in fact, every time I've gone, I always get the vegetable-only course meals, even though I am an avid meat-eater).
The waitress is a superb English speaker, so have no fear there, if you don't speak Japanese.
The seating area is fairly small, so its wise to make a reservation beforehand.
And, don't get me wrong here--I'm not an American-bashing dude who wishes he was Japanese, but unfortunately, the last time I was there, a bunch of Americans came in and wanted to make all these alterations and substitutions for the menu items. Just a heads up, that's not how it works in Japan. Please don't do that.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Bruta was our ultimate secret finding ! What a hidden gem , just 15 minutes walk from crowded arashiyama tourists spot. It is an absolutely amazing local restaurant !!! It boasts fantastic course menus as well as a la carte menus made with freshest ingredients you can ever imagine at such reasonable price . Great sake and wine collections as well! Chef/owner, Mr. Bruta , ( what a humorous man he is!) recommended us a perfect french wine to go with our course menu , which we enjoyed every bit of it! He grills steaks to perfection! ( wow) Chika, Mr. Bruta’s daughter , who speaks fluent English, befriended us and explained each dish with wit and humor ! In addition, gorgeous , modern artistic interior and cozy ambience only added much pleasure to our total experience. We wish more tourists would visit this place and experience the same.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a small family-run restaurant. The crowd seems to be mainly local, which is refreshing given Arashiyama bring a place packed by tourists. Their filet course is amazing. The streak is soft and succulent even though it is quite think. I wish I had ordered more.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Incredible meal, this really did feel like a hidden gem. We had our names down on a list at a different place, but when we saw this one we changed our minds. The courses were beautifully presented and tasted incredible - despite the fact that we went for the beef the vegetable soup was one of the best things I've ever eaten. Of course the steak was delicious, and the service top notch.
We were there right at noon when they opened. By the time we'd finished our first two courses the place was packed. It's a small spot but was one of the best meals we've had in Japan.
