大野田古墳群は，市の南部にあり，地下鉄富沢駅の東側に接し，標高10～12mの後背湿地及び自然堤防上の微高地に立地しており，面積は約193,000㎡である。縄文時代および古墳時代から中世にかけての複合遺跡であり，これまで富沢駅周辺土地区画整理事業の道路建設や共同住宅建設などに伴い，22次にわたる調査が実施されている。古墳時代前期では竪穴住居跡より竪櫛(たてぐし)などの遺物が出土している。主体となる古墳時代中期から後期においては，多数の古墳が確認され，その総数は平成27年現在で45基を数える。鳥居塚古墳が主軸長37mの前方後円墳である以外はすべて円墳である。径約32mの春日社古墳を最大として，多くは径20m前後で小さなものは径10m以下である。古墳からは，土師器，円筒埴輪，形象埴輪などが出土している。本遺跡は，東北地方で数少ない埴輪を有する群集墳であるが，埴輪は全ての古墳から出土する訳ではなく，径10m以下の小型の古墳からは検出されない傾向がある。

The Onoda Kofungun is located in the southern part of the city, bordering the east side of Tomizawa Subway Station, in a back swamp with an altitude of 10 to 12 m and in a very highland on a natural levee, and has an area of about 193,000 m2. It is a complex archaeological site from the Jomon period and the Kofun period to the Middle Ages, and 22nd surveys have been conducted so far due to road construction and condominium construction of the land readjustment project around Tomizawa Station. In the early Kofun period, relics such as vertical combs have been excavated from the remains of pit dwellings. A large number of tumuli were confirmed in the middle to late Kofun period, and the total number is 45 as of 2015. All are circular tumuli, except that the Toriizuka tumulus is a keyhole-shaped tumulus with a spindle length of 37 m. The largest is the Kasuga-taisha burial mound with a diameter of about 32 m, most of which are around 20 m in diameter and smaller ones are 10 m or less in diameter. Haji pottery, cylindrical burial mounds, and figurative burial mounds have been excavated from the tumulus. This site is a crowd burial mound with a few haniwa in the Tohoku region, but haniwa are not excavated from all burial mounds and tend not to be detected in small burial mounds with a diameter of 10 m or less.
