散歩地図を眺めていたら、
新町御嶽神社の場所に、
「雹害記念塔」の文字があったので行ってみたよ。
地図をレンズで拡大したけど、
「あられ」ではなく「ひょう」です。
神社の手水舎の北側に、
記念塔がいくつかあるけど、
目的の塔は、白い壁の建物の南側に、
雨かんむりの文字の彫られた、
明るい灰色の塔だよ。
細い角柱の上に丸い珠があるよ。
この大きさのものが、頭に落ちてきたら、
痛いでは済まないよなぁ、と思いつつ、
離れたところから写真を撮るだけにしたよ。

The target tower is on the south side of the white-walled building,

It's a light gray tower.
There is a round bead on a thin prism.

While thinking that it wouldn't hurt
I just took pictures from a distance.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 昭和２年５月１５日の降雹の道筋は、青梅から瑞穂、武蔵村山、東大和、小平にかけての地域で被害は発生していて、青梅の霞村・新町では、開村３００年にしての大被害だったとして、永遠に記念しようと、「雹害紀念塔」建設の話が持ちあがったと云う。
紀念塔に、碑文はないが、その概要は青梅市の吉野廣助氏が綴った『新町雹害紀念誌』に記されていて、植松先生が書き写されていた。
The route of hailfall on May 15, 1945 was damaged in the area from Ome to Mizuho, Musashimurayama, Higashiyamato, and Kodaira. It is said that the story of the construction of the "Kasumi Memorial Tower" was raised to commemorate the damage forever.
There is no inscription on the memorial tower, but the outline is written in the "Shinmachi Haze Damage Memorial Magazine" written by Mr. Hirosuke Yoshino of Ome City, and was copied by Dr. Uematsu.
