★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 小泉八雲の小説『雪女』は、ここ青梅に昔から伝わる話が基になっているそうだ。物語の中で巳之吉は吹雪の夜に雪女と出会うが、その場所だとされているのがここ調布橋(千ヶ瀬の渡し)。実際に、江戸時代、老人と青年の2人の樵が山仕事から帰る途中に突然の吹雪に吹かれて夢中で多摩川渡しの小屋を探して一晩明かそうとし、体力の無い老人は凍死したが若者の方は生き残った、そんな事件があったものに色が付いて言い伝えられたのだろうと思う。
Koizumi Yakumo's novel "Yuki Onna" is said to be based on a story that has been handed down here in Ome. In the story, Minokichi meets Yuki Onna on a snowstorm night, and it is said that this is the place where Chofubashi (Chigase no Watari). In fact, in the Edo period, two lumberjacks, an old man and a young man, were blown away by a sudden snowstorm on their way home from mountain work and tried to find a hut across the Tama River and reveal it overnight, but the weak old man froze to death. I think that the young people survived, and the ones that had such an incident were colored and told.
