We are meat lovers and were so worried at first. Turns out they have mastered the art of Tofu. It was impressive how they could create various dishes from a simple ingredient so minimal yet so flavorful. Yubasen is the Michelin of tofu. If you are in Kyoto dont leave without stopping by.

Very special cuisine, yoba means tofu skin which I’ve eaten many times before but their way to present this yoba is very unique:)

The great spot for vegetarians or people who are allergic to dairy! They make their own yuba at upstair where you can go see through the windows.

Tired a Yuba restaurant here. Its really good and the beancurds is light and smooth. There was no queue, not crowded if you dont want to queue long with the other famous tourist shops. They have english menu and creditcard capabilities.

Very nice place with - as far as I understood - vegetarian menu based on yuba / tofu / soy. I took a plate for around 2000y and it had a lot of different small plates/bowls to try. It was all very tasty and very surprising. Included desserts too.

Location is just on the way to kiyomizu temple. Although the portions look small, it is actually very filling even for men. The varieties of toufu and the different tastes was wonderful. Service was prompt and very good. Recommended for a visit if it's your first time.

(Trip was made back then on 5 Dec 2019, 2 years before the Covid-19 Pandemic hit) Read that yudofu (simmered tofu) and yuba (tofu skin) are local specialities of Kyoto. Though we didn’t get to try yudofu for this trip, we chanced upon a restaurant which specialises in yuba, while exploring Sannen-zaka 2 years ago today. I thought that it would be similar to the tofu skins I’m used to back home and never thought that yuba would be any different. But it blew my mind after having tasted Yubasen’s yuba. It’s remarkable how they’re able to take such a simple humble ingredient and transform it into something so divine. It looked deceptively firm, but once I took a bite of it, I was in heaven. The yuba was pressed into small blocks, forming layers upon layers of soft silky goodness. The freshly made yuba had a very soft and silky smooth texture, like silk threads unravelling on your tastebuds, almost melting away as if it’s soft velvety ice cream. For some of the firmer yuba items, it has this slight springiness to it which had a very appealing texture the more you chew. Honestly, this was the best tofu meal I’ve ever had and I can understand why it’s considered a delicacy of Kyoto. I wouldn’t mind being vegetarian if all my meals tasted this good.

This restaurant is definitely vegan friendly with no meat on sight at all. It served Japanese teishoku style/Banzai style with everything made from Yuba (tofu skin). It is totally Japanese authentic. The taste is ordinary compared to the high price of each food. The restaurant is pretty crowded when i visit. I noticed reservations come a lot. It is located very close to Kiyomizu-dera.
