神社は土塁の上にあり、北側には素晴らしい空堀がある。なかなか幅が広く、小牧長久手戦の際に改修したとの説もうなづける。

1543年に松平信孝(松平広忠の叔父)は、織田方につき、山崎城(大岡城)を築いたとされています。
信孝は勝手に所領を広げるなどしたため、広忠と対立しました。
現在、神明社の北側に堀が残っており、当時の姿をよくとどめています。

Nobutaka confronted Hirotada because he expanded his territory without permission.
