★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 大用国師が円覚寺内を整備して、正続院のみを専門道場とする前は、円覚寺全山が道場で、この選佛場が修行の中心の坐禅堂だったそうです。
また、真向かいにある仏殿が関東大震災で倒壊したので、再建されるまでは仏殿の代わりに使用されていた建物だそうです。
中央が三和土で周囲が一段高くなって畳敷きという、専門道場の坐禅堂と同じつくりになっています。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 2016/04/29に参拝。北鎌倉駅の鎌倉方下りホームから円覚寺方面に出られます。改札から線路に沿って（50ｍ－2分）鎌倉方に歩けばそこが円覚寺境内、本来は鎌倉街道沿いが参道入口です。
選仏場とは、仏を選び出す場所という意味で、修行僧の坐禅道場のことです。元禄12年(1699)に伊勢長島城主松平忠充が、江戸の月桂寺・徳雲寺住職一睡碩秀の薦めにより、大蔵経を寄進するとともに、それを所蔵する場所と禅堂を兼ねた建物として建立されました。
現在は、阿弥陀如来と円覚寺百観音霊場の一番『大慈大悲観世音菩薩像』が安置されており、いつでも拝顔できます。
