The design in the restaurant is definitely stunning and modern with a nod to the traditional ryokan, which I particularly liked. The staff was very kind and helpful.

The view looking out to the snow was simply magical to say the least. Room was supremely comfortable with in-room jacuzzi.
A	Al Kwok on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our room came with tatami floors, Chabudai dining tables, and in a separate living area, leather couches with ottermans, flat-screen TV, tea and coffeemakers, minifridges, and a fireplace. The ryokan has three open-air hot-spring communal baths, gender-separated. Upon arrival, shoes are off and guests wear the provided slippers during their stay. Our tour group of 35 people had a traditional keiseki (multi course meal) in the spacious banquet room. The staff was friendly and efficient.

On the final night (busy night) we missed out on a table with a good view and instead sat at the Chef's table. The room had gorgeously designed doors.

The bathroom was very well stocked. There are Japanese style rooms offering traditional tatami beds and Western rooms offering standard beds.
R	Reneé Fonseca on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This resort and spa was gorgeous! The staff was considerate and attentive, and helpfully explained the amenities of our spacious, traditional-style Japanese room. We choose a suite for four with a private bath, and made extensive use of the six public baths available. The beautiful hot springs matched the pristine forests surrounding the resort. We were able to hike and relax before each delicious Japanese and French meal. I recommend this location 100%.

The historic building is in the midst of an ongoing refit and some rooms are already upgraded to the highest standard. We were offered a lovely traditional Japanese style room but opted instead for the newly refreshed western style room because it included an indoor/outdoor bath & shower combo that was quite glamorous. While the physical setting is lovely, the star of this show is the outstanding staff. All dedicated professionals focused on making your stay a relaxing delight. Even though they don’t get many English speaking guests (<10%), but they pay very close attention.

I still remember every plate they have served because it was so tasty and delicious. Staff who served meal did very good job. They seem to know what we want and serviced just that. Wine selection is also excellent. I never know there is such tasty Japanese wine. ( both red and white) they let us have wine by the glass so we could taste many different wine. Food was served just right amount so when we finished we weren’t too full. Hot spring bath has beautiful view over the river. Our room has very good taste of western and Japanese. It was very clean and roomy. If you are looking for good food, nice hot spring bath, friendly staff in Matsumoto,don’t look any further.
