(From the history of the front shrine) Legend of Taira no Masakado The area upstream from Kashima Bridge is called "Hachimangawara", and this Hachiman is named after the nearby "Tadakari (Hachiman) Shrine". It is said that Hidesato Fujiwara subdued Masakado in this river. During this battle, Shomon was shot by Jiro Fujiwara (the ancestor of Mr. Kiryu), the second son of Hidego, and soared into the heavens and fell apart. It is said that he fell to a major shrine in the city, his belly to Ohara Shrine, and his feet to Keisokuji, and was buried there. "Tadakari Shrine" is located just west of Kashimabashi Minamizume. After the turmoil of Masakado, Hidesato sent the leader of Masakado to Keisokuji Temple in Shimono Omata (currently Ashikaga City), and when he approached this place, Taira no Masakado, the head of Masakado became a grudge. It is said that he made a strange voice, and then strange things happened one after another in this area, so he buried the body of Masakado here and built a shrine and called it "the shrine of the body tube". This is the predecessor of Tadakari Shrine. Also, in front of Masakado's maid, Kikyo (who is said to be Hidesato's younger sister here), he was from Tadakari village and betrayed Masakado and passed through Hidesato, so Taira no Masakado was defeated. However, it is said that Hidesato killed him in front of Kikyo after the Masakado turbulence in order to close his mouth. It is also reported that as the disaster continued in this area, people began to hate the front of Kikyo. Kokoroo Temple is located on the south side of the Kita Kanto Expressway, 5 to 600 meters south of Tadakari Shrine. At Shinouji Temple, it is said that Masakado prayed for Masakado's rebellion at the behest of Hidesato Fujiwara. Another theory is that at this temple, the spirits of Masakado, his brothers, and his servants were memorialized and the bodhi was mourned. The stone monument with the words "Derived from Kokoroo Temple" in this temple states that Masakado was shot dead in a battle with Hidesato Sano, crossing the Watarase River with his clan. At that time, the corpse of Masakado was sent to a place called Keisokuji Temple in Omata (present-day Tochigi Prefecture), and passed around here. Suddenly, I heard a voice from the casket containing the corpse of Masakado, saying, "I'm sorry!" In fact, there was a maid named Kikyo at Masakado, but her birthplace was Tadakari. Kikyo betrayed his master and led to Hidesato, which was the cause of Masakado's defeat. Those who carried the casket fought in fear and enshrined a part of the body of Masakado on this sword to calm the grudges. Since then, it is said that Kikyo has been abhorred in this area. When I asked a local elderly person who happened to be at a shrine about the truth of this story, it seems that it has been said for a long time that this shrine is the body mound of Masakado. In addition, Kikyo has been disliked as ominous not only for flowers but also for kimono patterns and tableware patterns. There is something completely different and surreal in this story. The body of Masakado, who was struck by the neck, followed Hidesato Fujiwara, who had taken away his neck, and reached the shore of the Watarase River. It is said that the villagers pitied Masakado, who chased after him in search of his neck, even if he had only a torso, and politely buried the corpse. Also, in Yamamae, Tochigi Prefecture, on the opposite bank, there is an Ohara shrine that worshiped the belly of Masakado, and in Yobe there is a major shrine that worshiped hands (^ _ ^;)
