★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 楠木正成と足利尊氏に良いところも悪いところも全部とられて、無味無臭の脇役に追いやられた感のある新田義貞を祭神とする神社です。なお、建武中興十五社として義貞戦死の地である福井に藤島神社が創建されていますので、いよいよもって立つ瀬がありません。
社殿は凡庸で見どころはありません。立派な社務所があるものの人の気配はなく、御朱印も拝殿の前に書き置きが置いてあるだけでした。
わざわざ遠くから足を運ぶに足る見どころはありませんが、ここはもともと金山城址に建てれた神社で、城址のほうは石垣を遺すのみであるもののなかなかの見ごたえです。ついでの立ち寄りであれば良いかと存じます。

金山城趾の奥にあります。

ほとんどの山城の跡地には神社が作られる事が多いのですが、その中でも金山城の跡地に建つ神社は立派なものだと思います。
三社が立ち並び、左側に位置しているのが新田神社です。
新田神社と言うからにはやはり、新田氏に由緒があると思われます。調べてみるとやはり、新田義貞公が御祭神になっていました。金山城の城主をつとめた新田氏とゆかりの深い太田市には、その歴史に準じた史跡が多く残っています。
武将ゆかりの神社の一つとして、参拝されるのも宜しいかと思います。
