★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 南北に県道32号大子美和線、東へ県道321号上檜沢下小川停車場線が合流するここがタバッコ峠ですが、「大子町」と「常陸大宮市」の境界の案内版があるものの、峠名はありません。写真に撮らないでしまいましたが、道路脇の木陰に小さな石の道標があって、北方に栃原村と大澤村、南方に美和村があることが示されています。
現代のタバッコ峠は、峠というにはいささかなだらかで広々カイテキィ～大変走りやすい道路ですが、往古は峻厳な山道だったのでしょう。また、タバッコとは煙草からではなくて、諸説あるものの、「（常陸大宮市）高部」或いはアイヌ語が語源だという説などがあります。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ タバッコ？タバコ？由来は何なんでしょうね。輪行後のヒルクライムで通りました。10°くらいだったと思うけど、運動不足の私には大変だったー。エンジン付きでくれば良かった。森に囲まれ道が細めでスピード注意したほうがいいです。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 峠の名前の看板はありません。大子町と常陸大宮市の看板が目印です。
どちらから上っても１０％近い勾配があります。大子側は道が細いですが、常陸大宮市側は道が2車線でほぼ整備されています。
自転車で走ると道の脇の小川のせせらぎが心地よいです。
There is no sign with the name of the pass. The signboards of Daigo Town and Hitachiomiya City are landmarks.
There is a gradient of nearly 10% from either side. The road on the Daigo side is narrow, but on the Hitachiomiya city side, the road is mostly maintained with two lanes.
When you ride a bicycle, the murmuring of the stream on the side of the road is comfortable.
