★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Went here just to check out the area. It is known for an area with lots of old people. There were a lot of old people, but not exclusively. First, after exiting the station, I noticed a Seiyu that looked VERY old and dilapidated-like no paint or maintenance for 30 years. Then there were many pachinko parlors all around and even going down the street. Not good. There is a traditional shopping road about five minutes away on foot that has an old traditional feel, but very narrow and lot's of trucks going up and down. There are some unique shops selling red underwear, that seems to be a trademark of Sugamo, as there is a temple on the road that is really for healing and energizing-popular with old people, and red is the color of vitality, or so they say. Looks like some shops sell nice food like dango and daifuku, there were also sembei shops and various drug stores, dentists, and cheap clothes shops.
