JR Pass Holder You have to pay to transfer to the Yamanote Line coming from the Joban Line. No other way of getting around to Tokyo unless you transfer through here.

Not the most welcoming station, especially when taking the subway. Note that you must pay a new ticket for either JR line or the Chiyoda line when not using an EC card. Can be a true inferno when changing for the subway when everyone rides back home.

Junction of JR lines, Metro Chiyoda line and Toneri Liner. I'd say an average station, except for the platform over intersection next to Toneri Liner platform where you can see rail tracks in 3 directions. Transfers between JR lines and Toneri Liner require short walk outside, if the weather is really bad transfering at Nippori may be better option.

A smaller dated station. Has a Metro line Chiyoda and connects to rail lines. Was near my hotel, was here twice a day, using the 3 day metro pass, to go to town and back from sightseeing.

Probably my least favourite train station within the Tokyo area. It's small and the transfer between lines aren't convenient. Alongside of that, the Keihin Tohuku line only stops here in the morning and evening. While the Yamamote Line stops for only a maximum of maybe 20 seconds. If you miss it, you must wait in the cold for 4 more minutes. :(

Small station with access to Nippori centre which gets you to Yanaka classic area after 10-15 minutes walk You have to walk uphill first though 6 April 2017

A "lesser sibling" of Nippori Station and is physically smaller, it servers primarily the surrounding neighbourhoods. A few notable local landmarks such as a street with izakayas and a small shrine. Lots of trainspotting here.

Worst station in Tokyo. Problem is that their signboards are extremely confusing and inaccurate. I followed signs for Keihin Tohoku line to platform 1 and entered but it turned out to be boobytrap. It belong to different company even though the signs everywhere said JR Keihin Tohoku line. I had exit the station and look again for another entrance to keihin Tohoku. Problem is not JR problem is the other company which piggyback on JR station and mystify customers.
